A Leader Rooted in Community, Driven by Purpose

Susan Ellenberg is a lifelong advocate, a dedicated public servant, and a passionate leader committed to building a stronger, more equitable Santa Clara County. With a background in law, education, and local government, Susan has spent her career fighting for fairness, opportunity, and a government that works for everyone.

From Advocate to Leader

Susan’s journey into public service wasn’t planned—it was a calling. Raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in a family that valued education, hard work, and civic engagement, she developed a deep belief in the power of community and the responsibility we all share to lift one another up. She carried these values with her through her education at Barnard College and Columbia Law School, where she studied to become an attorney.

Susan began her legal career when she and her husband, Steve, moved to Santa Clara County to build their life and raise their family. Like so many working parents, she navigated the challenges of balancing career, childcare, and community involvement—experiences that shaped her perspective on the struggles families face every day.

A Commitment to Public Service

Susan’s public service career began in education, where she served as a school board trustee for San Jose Unified School District. There, she worked to improve schools, expand students' opportunities, and ensure families had a voice in decision-making. Her time in education reinforced a fundamental truth: government works best when it listens to the people it serves.

Her leadership on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors has been guided by that same principle. As a collaborator and problem solver, she has worked alongside community leaders, advocates, and residents to ensure government is responsive, compassionate, and effective.

A Leader for Today—and Tomorrow

With decades of experience, a strong track record of leadership, and an unwavering commitment to service, Susan is ready to continue fighting for the people of Santa Clara County. She believes that when we come together—leaders, families, businesses, and community members—we can create a county where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Join Susan in building a future where every voice matters, every family is supported, and every community thrives.
