Evergreen Initiative sprawl could threaten Coyote Valley

Coyote Valley provides habitat and allows animals to navigate around our growing city; it also contributes to flood control and water quality in San Jose, absorbing storm waters and overflow from creeks that recharge our aquifers.

As a San Jose resident who cherishes our wildlife, open spaces and the environment, I am deeply troubled by the potentially devastating impacts the Evergreen Initiative could have on Coyote Valley. Coyote Valley is a regional treasure for both wildlife and people, with beautiful open space that provides habitat and allows animals to navigate around our growing city.

It also contributes to flood control and water quality in San Jose, absorbing storm waters and overflow from creeks that recharge our aquifers. All of this could be lost with the initiative, as it could open the floodgates for sprawling subdivisions that would consume not only the open space in Coyote Valley but throughout Santa Clara County.
